Pak Suzuki Discontinues Two Cultus Variants — Is This The End Of The Cultus?
The Suzuki Cultus has been one of Pakistan’s most familiar family hatchbacks for decades. But its future has suddenly become a question mark.
Pak Suzuki has reportedly stopped taking new bookings for the Cultus VXR and Cultus VXL-AGS, leaving the VXL as the only variant currently available for new bookings.
So, is the Cultus discontinued?
Not exactly—at least not yet.
The Cultus nameplate remains alive, but removing two of its three variants is certainly a significant move.
Why Is Suzuki Cutting Down The Cultus Lineup?
Pak Suzuki has not officially explained the reason behind the decision, so anything beyond the booking announcement would be speculation.
However, the Cultus is facing a very different market than the one it entered.
The car was once positioned as a practical upgrade from the smaller Alto. Today, however, its price has climbed significantly, while buyers have more choices than ever before.
The current Cultus is still powered by a 1.0-litre engine and remains a relatively simple hatchback — but its price puts it against increasingly competitive alternatives offering more features, newer designs and, in some cases, larger engines.
What Happened To The AGS?
The discontinuation of the VXL-AGS is particularly interesting.
Suzuki introduced AGS as an affordable alternative to a conventional automatic transmission. But with the Cultus AGS approaching the Rs. 4.6 million mark, buyers may increasingly question whether an automated manual gearbox makes sense at this price.
Again, Suzuki hasn’t confirmed this as the reason — but the market has clearly become more difficult for the Cultus.
The Bigger Problem For Suzuki
The Cultus isn’t necessarily a bad car.
Its biggest strengths remain Suzuki’s enormous dealership network, affordable parts, familiar mechanics and strong resale value.
But those advantages aren’t as powerful as they used to be.
Chinese manufacturers are bringing newer cars with more equipment, while Pakistani consumers are becoming far more demanding about what they get for their money.
The days when simply being a Suzuki was enough to guarantee sales are slowly disappearing.
Is The Cultus Next?
That’s the million-rupee question.
For now, the Cultus is not completely discontinued. But eliminating the VXR and VXL-AGS leaves the model with a much smaller footprint.
It could simply be Suzuki rationalising its lineup.
Or it could be the beginning of the end for a nameplate that has been part of Pakistan’s automotive landscape for generations.
Either way, one thing is clear:
The Cultus is no longer operating in the Pakistan it was designed for.
And if Pak Suzuki wants to keep the name alive, it may eventually need something more than another price revision — it may need a genuinely new Cultus.
