Punjab’s first E-Taxi Scheme is slowly taking shape.
Another meeting was held in Lahore, the third one so far, hosted by Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan. The discussion was mostly about where the project stands and how to move ahead without rushing things.
Officials say 1,100 electric vehicles have been kept for the first phase. These won’t hit the roads all at once. The plan is to move step by step so problems can be fixed early.
The response from the public has been bigger than expected. Over 22,000 applications have already come in from different cities of Punjab. Right now, teams are busy checking documents and verifying details. No final list has been shared yet.
One thing officials kept repeating was jobs. They said the scheme could help people who are out of work or looking for another income source. There was also talk about women drivers, and how the project might give them a safer way to earn.
Because interest keeps growing, the government is now thinking beyond the initial cities. More areas across Punjab may be added later.
Having With fuel prices already high and jobs not easy to find, many people see this scheme as a small but hopeful step. Whether it delivers or not will depend on how fairly and smoothly it’s handled.
